configure was just patched to generate linking commands differently in Makefiles [1]. This is because of a strange behavior of gcc, which I documented here [2]. Thanks to this, an increasing number of UNIX utilities from the utils [3] project could be compiled and made to run. The shell [4] should follow as well.

It was about time, but the libc is no longer stuck in its mostly useless state. Of course the problems were multiple, but also mostly trivial. They will be gathered in the comments. The lack of practice over theory was obvious, just like really stepping back would have helped.
Anyway, this marks another milestone in the project, and the libc will also be wrapped up for release when ready.

The current proof-of-concept projects are to be released and put on pause (mostly meaning the desktop applications).
In the next two months the following actions will be taken:
For the short term, this means:
Obviously, the web site also needs a bit of re-organization, including the documentation, download sections, and automated tasks (daily builds, etc).
In the next two months the following actions will be taken:
- properly add GPL wording where appropriate;
- release the projects close enough to usability;
- focus on the essential software set for fundamental functionality.
For the short term, this means:
- the first concept release of Browser;
- focus on libSystem, Session and Init.

The current source code for the web surfer application just made it to the CVS tree. Although embedding Mozilla's Firefox or Seamonkey at will, it lacks even more features than the previous gtk-webcore-based effort, because the GtkMozEmbed API is not even close to something usable.

Early source code for the media player is now available. It actually embeds mplayer in a window overlapping a Gtk+ 2 application. It currently does pseudo-fullscreen, and the playlist management will follow.

GPuTTY is not directly derived from the DeforaOS project. but it eventually found its way here. The attempt at removing obsolete code per Gtk+ 2.0 was trickier (and more boring) than expected, but it is now done in a way that seems to finally work.
The current source code in CVS can be considered final for the 0.9.9 release, and I will wrap it up some time soon in ways more suitable for distribution.

Some of the changes are still waiting for cleanup before the actual submission, but they definitely look better. You can make your own opinion by looking at:
